Michelle Sekwena was born on May 29, 2000 (Age 26). She hails from Pretoria and is married. She was living a normal life until she was diagnosed with gigantomastia.

In December 2023, she noticed that her breasts were growing rapidly. Over the next couple of months, her breast size increased from 32A to 34G. The enormous size made it difficult for her to do things she had previously enjoyed, such as jogging, walking long distances, and running. She also experienced severe pain in her back, waist, and knees due to the extra weight.

At first, people who did not know she was suffering from gigantomastia thought she was pregnant, as breast enlargement is a normal occurrence during pregnancy as the breasts prepare for breastfeeding.

However, when the stares and side comments from people became too much, she visited a hospital seeking an explanation. That was when she was diagnosed with gigantomastia, a rare condition that causes excessive and rapid growth of breast tissue. Only about 300 cases have reportedly been documented worldwide.

Initially, doctors at a public hospital told her to wait for six years to see if there would be any changes. Unsatisfied with the response, she sought treatment at a private hospital, where doctors told her that surgery was the only option. The procedure was estimated to cost R75,000, approximately $4,500, a money she did not have.

Determined to educate people about women living with gigantomastia, Michelle quickly opened a TikTok account to share her experience. One of her videos about her struggles with the condition went viral, eventually receiving 22 million views. Many people expressed sympathy for her struggles and the pain she was experiencing.

Thankfully, followers who watched her videos rallied around her and supported her efforts. Eventually, enough money was raised to pay for the surgery.

Michelle underwent breast reduction surgery in February 2025. Following the procedure, her breasts were reduced to a 34D, which was reportedly the smallest size possible for her.

After the surgery, she was thrilled with the results, saying that she had her “life back.”
