Throughout history, one thing that has remained constant is change. For humans to get to where they are today, they have continuously adapted over time.

Over the last couple of years, one development that has put the whole world on edge is the emergence of A.I. At first, people thought it was some kind of unintelligent computer software, incapable of displacing humans.

However, it has proven everyone wrong. Every year, with each new model release, A.I. continues to get smarter and can even go head to head with the best of humans in some fields. While some people are still against it, others have begun incorporating it into their work. Initially, its adoption was mainly among programmers, but music generative content became a major talking point with the release of Suno AI.

Suno AI and other generative music apps have made it incredibly easy for anyone to make music. Honestly, it has become difficult to tell the difference between music generated by A.I and music made by a skilled human. One smart individual taking advantage of this in South Africa is Rea Gopane.

Who is Rea Gopane?

Rea Gopane is an artist known for his hit song Suka. The track, which was released in October 2025, has amassed over 10 million cumulative streams.

The Amapiano song, which was Rea Gopane’s first entry into the charts, was completely written by A.I. The vocals, the beats, the chords, and everything else were generated by artificial intelligence with little to no effort.

As a result of how cheap and accessible it is to make such tracks, Rea Gopane began generating music at a rapid rate. Since October 31, 2025, he has been releasing new Amapiano music every Friday. He plans to stop in February, before releasing his first studio album in March, all of which will be completely written and produced by A.I.

The identity of Rea Gopane is not unknown. He has been in the music space for some time, not as an artist, but as a podcaster. He was one of the hosts at Everything SA Music TV, one of the growing music podcasts in South Africa.

Through event hosting and shows, he has met and interviewed many artists, but he never really made music or collaborated with anyone until the emergence of A.I.

Rea Gopane is a real human, a South African who only uses A.I for making music.

Limitations

While Rea Gopane has a robust catalogue of bangers, he lacks the skills of an artist, producer, and DJ. Since he went viral, it was only natural for him to receive a high demand for bookings. However, as someone who could not sing or curate a DJ playlist, he turned down all gigs.

Although, he later enrolled himself in a three-week DJ course.

Criticism

Since Rea Gopane went viral with his Suka single, many creatives have come online to criticise the rise of A.I. They argue that with talentless individuals making hit songs, the music industry could collapse and real creatives could be pushed out of jobs.
