We all know that some South African drivers can be reckless, but when it comes to children and human life in general, such irresponsible behaviour should never be tolerated. Unfortunately, many drivers continue to act carelessly. Not only do they drive irresponsibly, but they also operate vehicles that are not roadworthy.

South Africa was thrown into mourning on Monday morning, January 16, 2025, after a school bus transporting learners was involved in a tragic accident that claimed the lives of 12 pupils at the scene. The driver responsible for the crash is Ayanda Dludla, also known as “Biggie.”

Ayanda Dludla, who is 22 years old, sustained minor injuries when the school vehicle collided with a truck. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged. Following his discharge, he was arrested by police.

Charges levelled against Ayanda Dludla

Ayanda Dludla is currently facing:

  • 14 counts of murder, including attempted murder
  • Driving without a valid permit
  • Operating an unlicensed vehicle

Appearing before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning, January 22, 2026, Ayanda’s application for bail was denied. He is expected to appear in court again on March 6, 2026.

What lies ahead for Ayanda Dludla

If found guilty on the charges brought against him, Ayanda Dludla could face life imprisonment.
