Summary of ANC’s 2024 Manifesto

South Africa’s leading political party, the ANC has unveiled its manifesto for the 2024 general election which is scheduled to hold on 29 May 2024. This year’s manifesto was launched in KwaZulu-Natal at the Moses Mabhida Stadium by president Cyril Ramaphosa in the presence of over 70 thousands ANC members.

Summary of the Manifesto
This election unlike previous election will be a tough one in South Africa with lots of political parties trying to displace the ANC. To maintain their lead, the ANC has given South Africans more reasons to vote for them and this is summarized into six priority/agenda which we will highlight below.

PRIORITY 1. Put South Africa to work: The ANC intend to put South Africa to work by increasing support for small enterprises, entrepreneurs, through public cooperatives, especially in townships and villages. The ANC assured South Africans that during the five years stay, they intend to engage the private sector on job creation and to promote and monitor employment equity.

PRIORITY 2. Build our industries to achieve an inclusive economy Expand and modernise our industrial capacity: Building and sustaining industries is one of the way the ANC intends to tackle unemployment and economic downturn. The ANC through its manifesto is promising to, in the next five years, advance industrialisation as a driver of economic sectors. They also promised to Increase exports to global and continental markets leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) while protecting strategic existing industries, like steel, and advance BRICS Plus and other bilateral relationships.

PRIORITY 3. Tackle the high cost of living Strengthen comprehensive social security Reduce the cost of living: Giving all South Africans the good life they desire is one of the ultimate goals of the ANC which they highlighted in their manifesto. By prioritising food security, including through VAT exemption on essential items, land reform, support for community and home gardens, the ANC intend to solve one of South Africa’s biggest problem. The ANC also promised to make life comfortable to all by maintaining and expanding subsidised basic services like water, houses for the poor and indigent policies in municipalities. In the case of healthcare, the ANC through its manifesto has promised to strengthen health services and implement the National Health Insurance (NHI) to make quality health care affordable and available to all.

PRIORITY 4. Invest in people: Investing in people will tackle lots of South Africa’s problem. The ANC is assuring all that it would ensure local government delivers on their roles and appropriate duties. The ANC is also saying they would invest more funds in improving public transport and roads and ensuring all South Africans get the best quality education and skills.

PRIORITY 5. Defend democracy and advance freedom: The ANC has said its government would ensure South Africans don’t face any injustice and would ensure they continue to defend democracy. It also promise to reinforce the contributions of arts, heritage, languages, the LGBTQI community, and continue the fight for women’s culture, sports and the creative sector more generally to emancipation and a truly non-sexist society.

PRIORITY 6. Build a better Africa and World: The ANC revealed that it would continue to work for the actualization of the continental free trade that will beneficial to all. The ANC also revealed that its government would work with other countries in the fight against climate change, global poverty and inequality in line with applicable international resolutions.
