Ronwen Williams is a celebrated South African goal keeper and one of the greatest goal-stopper in modern history. He plays for Mamelodi Sundowns and the South Africa national team which he Captains.

Early Life & Biography
Ronwen Williams, full name Ronwen Hayden Williams was born on 21 January 1992 (Age 32). Ronwen Williams was born in Gelvandale in Gqeberha.

Ronwen Williams hails from a family with a deep-rooted passion for football. His mother engaged in local football for enjoyment, even continuing until she was six months pregnant with him. Additionally, his uncle pursued a career as a professional goalkeeper.

Ronwen Williams finished his highschool in Gqeberha and started his football career at the age seven when he joined Shatterprufe Rovers in 1999. Surprisingly, he started his path not as a goalkeeper, but as a striker. His decision to switch to goalkeeping in the later part of his life was influenced by his uncle’s career in goal keeping.

Professional Career
After years of good play in Shatterprufe Rovers, Williams joined SuperSport United as a youth player in 2004. He got into the main Super United team in 2010. He played for the club untill he was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns in 21 July 2022.

Ronwen Williams got into the South African National team in 2014 while still in SuperSport United. He made his first match for South Africa on 5 March 2014, in a friendly against Brazil. He was named the captain of the national team in August 2021 by coach Hugo Broos named Williams.

Relationship
Ronwen Williams is married to his long-term girlfriend Roshni – whom he nicknamed his “first lady.” And they are blessed with a handsome boy.

Ronwen Williams’ relationship with his wife is one that needs to be told to all youngsters. The two began dating as teens and welcomed their son Mikael when he was just 21 years of age.

Unlike his colleagues who are typically known to flirt with the opposite gender, Ronwen Williams has remained commited to his partner.

“We started dating seven years ago, but we were friends for the longest time before that. As a footballer, you tend to attract many women, but I am glad that I have someone who knew me from the start and understands me,” – Ronwen Williams says in an interview with Sowetan in 2019.

Ronwen Williams was crowned the goal keeper of the year in the 2022/23 Premier Soccer League season.

He was named the man of the match on South Africa’s AFCON quarter-final match against Capes verge. Ronwen Williams saved a record-breaking four penalties during a penalty shoot-out.

Ronwen Williams was crowned the goal keeper of the tournament after the end of the 2024 AFCON.
