South Africa remains one of the countries in Africa with the highest rates of gender-based violence, especially against women. Despite the efforts of human rights groups, women’s rights activists, and feminist movements, this crisis continues to persist across the country.

Just a few hours ago, one of our own, Anathi Entle, revealed how she was brutally assaulted by her boyfriend, Suazo Sizani, despite being pregnant.

Suazo Sizani, Anathi’s abusive boyfriend

Background

The relationship between Anathi Entle and Suazo Sizani began a few years ago. For most of their relationship, Suazo Sizani allegedly physically assaulted Anathi Entle at the slightest provocation. As is often the case in abusive relationships, there comes a moment when the victim has had enough and decides to walk away quietly. Anathi Entle recently reached that point.

When Entle became pregnant, she hoped that her partner would change. Unfortunately, he continued being abusive throughout her pregnancy. After many attempts at forgiveness and reflection, she finally chose herself and her unborn child, realizing that the abuse only worsened and became completely out of control.

Detailing the series of abuses she suffered at the hands of Sizani, Entle recalled that on December 7, 2025, she was assaulted after going out with her friends. She had informed him that she was with her friends. While out, she met one of her male friends, who later offered to drop everyone off at home. When they arrived at her friend’s house, they were standing outside the car.

Suazo Sizani arrived while Entle was still sitting in the car with her friend Lody (Sibulele). Another friend, Lusanda, had already gone inside the house. Seeing Entle alone in the car with Lody, Sizani became furious, assuming she was involved romantically with him. Without asking any questions or seeking clarification, he irrationally opened the car door and ordered Entle to get out. She complied, later admitting that it was a mistake, as what followed was horrific.

After Entle exited the car, Suazo Sizani began beating her violently. He dragged her outside, kicking her repeatedly while she was on the ground, including strikes to her stomach, despite her being pregnant. Entle tried to shield her belly to protect her unborn child. His friend, Bayo, attempted to intervene, but Sizani was uncontrollable. Entle’s friends also tried to stop him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Eventually, Suazo Sizani forced Entle into his car, where she sat in the back seat. He drove off. Believing the ordeal was over and thinking he was taking her home, Entle soon realized the abuse was far from finished. Instead, he drove her to the beach. At around 3:00 a.m., the assault continued. She was helpless and unable to call for assistance because she had left her phone at her friend’s house out of fear. Overwhelmed, she eventually became numb and could no longer cry.

After he was done, Suazo Sizani drove her to his place, where the abuse continued until morning.

Domestic abusers rarely stop. If you ever find yourself in such a relationship, please leave as soon as you can.

Entle’s Fight Back

Entle was nearing her due date and knew that another assault could cost her life or that of her unborn child. Sadly, Suazo Sizani assaulted her again in mid-January 2026. This time, Entle drew the line. Guided by a maternal instinct to protect her unborn baby, she fought back for the first time in her life.

During this incident, Sizani assaulted her with a stick, striking her on the face and stomach. Entle bit him in self-defense and screamed for help. Neighbors responded immediately and came to her rescue. After escaping, she went to the police station to open a case and was later taken to the hospital.

Suazo Sizani on the Run

After Entle shared her ordeal on Facebook, the post quickly went viral, reaching nearly a million people. Women’s rights groups and activists began demanding justice, and as of January 27, Suazo Sizani reportedly fled his residence.

The police are currently searching for him, and he is expected to face criminal charges, including assault and attempted murder.
