The Sad Story of Tryphina Mngomezulu
Tryphina Mngomezulu was a domestic worker who lost her life after been attacked by six dogs at her work place. Her employers were slow to inform her family, and they only get to know about the demise of Tryphina Mngomezulu some days later.
Background
Tryphina Mngomezulu (Aged 65years) worked as a domestic staff for the same family for 15years. On that fateful day, Saturday, 2 March 2024, she left her home as usual to her work place but never returned.
It was later reported to the family that she got mauled to death by six dogs who went loose inside the yard. Tryphina Mngomezulu was allegedly attacked at the time when her employers were not at home, a preliminary investigation by the SAPS suggests.
Upon the arrival of the family, they saw the body of Tryphina Mngomezulu and immediately called on the SAPs who deployed its emergency services unit to the scene in Secunda and when they arrived, they declared that Mngomezulu was no more.
Investigation
Following the demise of Tryphina Mngomezulu, an inquest case was immediately launched and investigation carried by team of experts in the investigation field. Few days into the inquest, they obtained the CCTV footage and a proper diagnosis was been carried.
“The team has so far managed to make some progress in the investigation, one being the confiscation of CCTV footage. Police would like to refute suggestions that there was load shedding during the time of the incident,” South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Colonel Donald Mdhluli said.
Dogs Taken Down
After the case was reported to SAPS on 2 March, the six dogs involved were all euthanized the following day, 3 March, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was contacted.
Family Cries For Justice
While the case is currently being investigated by the police, the family of Tryphina Mngomezulu are crying foul play, are pressing on the employers to give them answers and closure.
