Background & Career
Real name Mjolisi Malibongwe, Mjolisi was born May 1, 2000 (Age 24) and hails from KwaZulu-Natal.
Being of Zulu origin, the artist began associating himself with traditional Zulu sounds while still in high school. After completing his secondary education, he focused more on his musical career. This shift came after the musical band he had formed with his classmates fell apart.
In search of a sound that would allow him to express his innermost thoughts without limitations, the artist began working with Maskandi sounds. Everything started with karaoke and acapella before transitioning to the studio, and that was how his career began.
In 2021, he released his official single, ‘Usizi.’ Distributed by DistroKid, the track initially failed to gain momentum but eventually amassed a good number of streams for a newcomer. The following year, he released ‘Akalele,’ a tribute single to Shimora.
In 2023, he put out several releases, but none propelled him to the top of the Maskandi scene until his 2024 release of ‘Umkami Sengalile,’ a song that garnered over 4 million cumulative streams across platforms.
That same year, he solidified his success with the release of ‘My Dululu’ featuring Mnqobi Yazo. The track quickly racked up 1.5 million streams in less than two weeks after its release.
Education
While still focusing on his musical career, Mjolisi didn’t stop to chase his degrees. He’s currently a student at the UKZN Howard College campus.
