Everything You Need To know About Kutlwano Pitso (Konka’s Owner)
Kutlwano Pitso is an entertainer, enterpreneur, digital marketer and the owner of Konka, one of the biggest restaurants and club in South Africa.
Biography & Education
Kutlwano Pitso hails from Orlando East, Soweto. Growing up from the township, Kutlwano Pitso had always had the zeal to make impact on his community and environment.
Kutlwano Pitso had his primary and secondary education in Orlando East. After highschool, he went to the IMM Graduate School in Johannesburg were he acquired a degree in Marketing and Brand Management.
Career
While still schooling at schooling at the IMM Graduate School, Kutlwano Pitso secured a job as a sales rep in a company called African sales. During his short stay at the company, he sold fragrance and learnt a lot about consumer behaviour, and how people make purchasing decisions.
In 2010, he joined Johannesburg-based company Foshizi, specialising in market research and strategy services. He also sharpened his knowledge of the marketing research process, and the quantitative, qualitative research techniques.
In 2011, he Kutlwano joined Multichoice, a move that marked the foundation of his career. Within a year at Multichoice, he was promoted from marketing assistant to Marketing Executive, and then Brand Manager.
While in Multichoice, he worked for content and youth channels, mastering how to work with cooperative idea and distributing it across platforms.
Moja cafe
After 5 years of working with Multichoice/M-Net, Kutlwano Pitso finally resigned his position from entertainment company in 2016 and thereafter opened his first business, Moja Cafe, a restaurant, car wash, and a lounge located in Orlando East, Soweto.
Launch of Konka
After a successful run in the food and restaurant industry, Kutlwano Pitso launched another subsidiary, which he named Konka. Konka was inaugurated in 2021 after buying the old Icon Soweto nightclub, renovating it, and giving it a new outlook.
Konka Night Club gained fame during the COVID-19 lockdown, hosting premium events that attracted all calibre of people. The club has been notoriously known for its expensive settings and luxurious spots where party goers show off cars like Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, G-Wagons, Lamborghinis and McLarens.
Allegations of Money Laundering
In 2022, Konka Soweto was accused of money laundering and encouraging criminal activities by social media users, an allegation the owner denied.
The Public relation manger of the club, Moeketsi said that the club doesn’t engage in fraudulent activities and also do not discriminate. Moeketsi advised social media users to celebrate black-owned businesses instead of criticising them.
“The brand ethos for a group of outlets is primarily rooted in a premium lifestyle experience for its consumers, regardless of geographical location, social and financial standing. Our consumers enjoy the entertainment offering we have strategically curated over the past few years and have been consistent in supporting our establishments as a result…. The speculations on social media are disheartening as they have never made for non-black owned establishments who have been operating in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg for over 20 years. Black success should be celebrated and not questioned, and the most disappointing thing about it all is that it is always questioned by our fellow black brothers and sisters,” she said.
Private Lifestyle
Kutlwano Pitso relationship status and much of his personal life details are hidden. The enterpreneur has managed to keep much of his life details away from the public eyes and as of 2024, he operates no single social media account.
