Almost everything that characterizes South African gospel star Ayanda Ntanzi—his powerful voice, harmonizing choir, and Zulu-inspired rhythms—shines in his hit single “Nasempini” (In the War) from his 2017 sophomore album, Priestly Worship. Born in Pietermaritzburg in the early ’90s, Ntanzi grew up in a family of singers who motivated him to dedicate his talent to his Christian faith.

His career took off in 2014 when Nqubeko Mbatha invited him to appear on the Gospel Classics TV show and became his mentor. Ntanzi’s 2015 debut album, Udumo (Fame), earned him Crown Gospel Awards nominations for Best Newcomer and Best Urban Contemporary Gospel. While pursuing a law degree, Ntanzi released According to Grace in 2020. Like many standout gospel albums, it captures a dynamic live performance featuring high-energy tracks like “Wena Jesu” (You, Jesus) and heartfelt English-language songs like “Grace Upon Grace.”
