Eemoh, real name Nqubeko Mbuliso Shangase is a versatile South African artist, singer, vocalist, rapper, songwriter and entertainer. He currently has partnership deals with Aces of Spade Records and Universal Music (Pty).

Eemoh made his burst into the music mainstream in March 2023 after the successful release of “iMpumelelo” with Sam Deep and Da Muziqal Chef. The song which dominated the charts for three consecutive months, has amassed over 20million collective streams on digital steaming platforms and earned him a top spot in the South African music scene.

Early Life

Eemoh (Nqubeko Mbuliso Shangase) born July 23, 1999, hails from Untunjambili, Kranskop in KwaZulu-Natal. He graduated from Kranskop High School in 2016 and then proceeded to study LLB at UKZN (University of KwaZulu-Natal) where he graduated in 2021.

Eemoh’s music journey started back in 2011 while he was doing Grade 7 at Vusizwe Primary School. In an interview with Greytown Gazette, the vocalist revealed that he recorded his first song in a proper studio that same year.

His musical inspirations come from influences found in prints and television media. At grade 8, he was doing all types of music including maskandi, kwaito and hip-hop, but due to the market at that time, he channelled his energy into the release of hip-hop.

Professional Career

In 2014, while still in highschool, Eemoh (Nqubeko Mbuliso Shangase) and some of his friends whom all hail from Untunjambili formed a group called Fuego Gang. In the group, roles were distributed to everyone according to their talents and specialization. The group came equipped with camera man, a DJ, a singer and an actor.

After completing his matric in 2016, Eemoh went solo, releasing music at steady rate while in UKZN (University of KwaZulu-Natal). In 2021, he released his first Hiphop Extended Play(EP), New Wave King.

Throughout his days in the university, Eemoh mastered his ability to adapt, blending into any genre and completely killing it. Not only was he putting his vocals on Kwaito, Maskandi and Hiphop beats, he also learnt how to make beats, mix and master a song from the beginning to the end.

Eemoh finally rose to worldwide fame with his 2023 collaborative single with Sam Deep and Da Muziqal Chef called “iMpumelelo.” And so far he has solidified his dominance with follow-up releases such as “Dubula” with HarryCane x Master KG & DJ Latimmy, “Masithokoze” with DJ Stokie, and “Sgudi Snyc” with De Mthuda, Da Muziqal Chef & Sipho Magudulela.

Collaborations

Due to the enormous talents he possesses, Eemoh has been able to work with some of Southern Africa’s biggest artists/producers such as De Mthuda, Master KG, DJ Maphorisa, Da Muziqal Chef, Sam Deep, Mellow and Sleazy, DK Stokie, HarryCane, DJ Latimmy, Myztro, Mawhoo, Murumba Pitch, Ntokzin, Mick-Man, Yumbs, Slade and Tumelo ZA.

Gender Identity

Fans have erroneously considered Eemoh to be a female due to his facial structure and vocals. But Eemoh (Nqubeko Mbuliso Shangase) is a male and he has actually confirmed his identity in a number of interviews.

“At a taxi rank in Johannesburg, some taxi driver checked me out and said to me, ‘hey, mama,’ and I was shocked. I even asked myself if he was talking to me. But yeah, guys, I’m a guy,” – Eemoh said in an interview.
