Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia is a Nigerian Catholic Priest, Politician, Entrepreneur, Governor-elect of Benue State, Nigeria.

Rev. Fr Hyacinth Iormen Alia became popular in Benue State, Nigeria for his healing power and spiritual gift. He started his pastoral work at the cathedral Church of Our Lady of perpetual Help Makurdi, in Benue State, from thence his congregation grew large and gained several visitors from across the world.

His healing mass was a place of blessing for several worshippers as he also contributed greatly financially and spiritually to many displaced and homeless people across Benue state. Rev. Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia was born on 14th May 1966, in Mbangur, Mbadede, Vandeikya Local Government in Benue State. Vandeikya L.G.A is home to Tiv people and it shares geographical boundaries with Cross River State, Ushongo and Konshisha. Vandeikya are hospitable people and it is predominatly occupied by Christians, Farmers and other Religious bodies.

He was born to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Katsina Alia, who were dedicated Catholics and they hail from Tiv tribe in Benue State. In 1983, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia attended his primary school at St. Francis Primary school Agigi, thence he proceeded to enrol at St. James Minor Seminary, Makurdi where he began his priestly journey.

He gained admission to St. Augustine’s Major Seminary Jos, to further his priestly dream. In 1987, he obtained a Diploma in Religious studies and in 1990 he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Theology. On 7th July 1990, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia was ordained a Catholic Priest by Bishop Athanasius Atule Usuh of Makurdi Catholic Diocese.

Due to his passion for education, In 1999 Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia further his studies, as he obtain a Masters degree in Religious Education at the Fordham University, Bronx, U.S.A and in 2004 he obtained another Masters Degree in Biomedical ethics from Duquesne Universitty, Pennsylavannia U.S.A.

Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia was suspended from his priestly duties by the Catholic Diocese of Gboko after declaring interest to run for the 2023 Benue State Governorship election.

The suspension letter from the catholic Diocese of Gboko which was dated 20th May, 2022 by Bishop William .A. Avenya. The suspension was as a result of the laws of the Catholic Church that states that Clerics are not allowed to be partisan or get activately involved in partisan politics else the cleric will be suspended from the sacred ministry Ex can. 285, 3 CIC.

In 2022, the cleric stated his interest in running for Governor to serve, represent and rescue his people. He ran for the governorship seat under the All Progressive Congress (APC). He was declared winner of the party primary election, he represented APC as the gubernatorial candidate 2023 governorship election.

On the 21st March 2023, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia was declared winner of the 2023 Benue State governorship election by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by gathering a total of 473,933 Votes defeating his closest rival Mr. Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP with 223,913 Votes.
