Matric Results 2023: Ways To Check Your Result & Tips on Gradings

The Department of Basic Education has confirmed that the result for the 2023 Matric examination is ready and it will be made public in the coming hours.

The exam which took place in October last year had over 717,377 participants. The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination is the final examination been taken by students who are in their final years in high school i.e in Grade 12. Conducted by the Department of Basic Education, it is a crucial component of the education system and if passed, students are been awarded a National Senior Certificate.

How To Check Your Result
1. Online: Candidates from public schools who sat for the 2023 Matric Exam can view their result online via the Department of Basic Education’s official website.

  • Visit https://www.education.gov.za
  • Scroll to Quick links and click on Examination results. Click on the drop-down link “2023 SC Examination Results” and it will redirect you to page (If the link isn’t on the website, you should hold on, it will be refreshed and updated in some hours)
  • Enter your Exam No and hit on the search button
  • Your result will be fetched for you.

If you wrote your exam within Gauteng, you can access your results by visiting https://results.gauteng.gov.za/, enter your Exam No and hit on the enter button and your results will be displayed.

For candidates that wrote their exams in private schools, they are to visit https://www.ieb-online.co.za/asp/login.aspx, login with your credentials and click on the 2023 result link.

2. Check Your Result from your school: Candidates can check and get a copy of their results from their school or examination centre. Results are usually sent to the school few hours after release.

3. Newspapers: Candidates who wrote the 2023 matric examination can also check their results on several newspaper publications like The Rapport and The Argus. Results will be out on these local papers precisely on the 19 of January.

Result Gradings
Results are usually graded as follow;

  • Level 7: 80 – 100% (Outstanding)
  • Level 6: 70 – 79% (Meritorious)
  • Level 5: 60 – 69% (Substantial)
  • Level 4: 50 – 59% (Moderate)
  • Level 3: 40 – 49% (Adequate)
  • Level 2: 30 – 39% (Elementary)
  • Level 1: 0 – 29% (Not achieved)
