Disrespecting and assaulting the elderly is considered a taboo in Africa and a crime in South Africa and it is so sad to see poorly raised kids raise their hands on aged people as we see in the viral video of Luluvo Ngqaza assaulting his Gogo.

Luluvo Ngqaza (19 years) was recorded physically assaulting his Gogo (GrandMother). The video which went viral on Facebook on July of 2024 had people boiling with anger. A grade 12 student of Bloekombos Secondary School in Kraaifontein, Luluvo Ngqgaza has always been a rebellious child, causing troubles for his aged Gogo.

Aside physically assaulting the vulnerable woman, Luluvo Ngqaza is also said to usually take all her pension money and leave nothing for her upkeep. Resident of Wallacedene Kraaifontein, Phase 9 are angry about the disturbing video and are seeking a punishment for Luluvo.

Reactions from South Africans
The disturbing viral video hasn’t sat well with many South Africans, as some are already calling for the young teen to be locked up in juvenile detention. Many are also wishing for Luvo Ngqgaza to be removed from the home of the Gogo and for a restraining order to be issued.

What the Law Says
The South African legal system is particularly concerned with the protection of vulnerable groups, including the elderly. It’s a crime to physically, emotionally and financially assault elderly persons and when someone is found wanting, regardless of their age and relationship with the abused, there are consequences to be faced.

Arrest
Luluvo Ngqaza was arrested on the evening of July 3rd 2024 and was immediately charged to court. He is expected to appear before the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault in the coming days.
