Lekau Sehoana is the Chief Executive Officer, founder of Drip footwear. Lekau is also determined Innovative South African entrepreneur, Designer, Business expert and Philanthropist that believes in making a positive impact in the young African Generations.

The business expert started his business empire called “Drip” at a very small scale, he made his first pair of footwear out of local and recycled materials. Since then, he has been so innovative with different lifestyle sneakers and footwears. His brand has gained recognition both locally and internationally.

Lekau Sehoana Early Life, Career and Business

Lekau Sehoana was born on the 20th of September 1988 (Age 36). The celebrated enterpreneur was born into an average-income family. In 2003, while he was in Grade 8, due to financial difficulties and challenges, he was given an old pair of sneakers to wear to school and events. Lekau will remove the torn part of the sneakers and redesign it using Denim and Polyurethane, with the redesign of the sneakers, it looks nice and got the attractions of many locals.

16 Years Later (2020), Lekau launched his own brand titled “Drip.” He launched the company with 600 pairs of sneakers which he managed to sell for a month and two weeks. Currently, Lekau has a team of over 300 people with 25 brick-and -mortar stores and a strong online commercial presence.

Lekau Sehoana company “Drip” was listed as number 65 on Africa’s Top 100 Most Admired Brands and number 2 as South Africa most Admired Brands. Lekau has a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 3 in civil engineering from Ekurhuleni West Technical, Vocational, Education and Training College (EWC), South Africa.

Lekau Sehoana is also a philanthropist. He’s assisted thousands of students with various aids to enable them complete their education.

Financial Struggles & Liquidation
Lekau Sehoana started facing financial challenges in 2023 after he was evicted from Springs Mall in Gauteng for failing to pay rent.

Lekau Sehoana and his drip brand were taken to the Joburg High Court in November of 2023 by mall owners Blue Crane Eco Mall, Vukile Property Fund, Murinda Investments and F&G Investments 2. Lekau Sehoana was sued for falling to pay the space rented to Drip store that amounted to about half a million rands.

“The first defendant breached the terms of the lease agreement by failing to make payments as agreed of the monthly rental and or turnover of the first defendant’s account, which amount is presently due, owing and payable. The plaintiffs hereby cancel the lease agreement as the plaintiffs are entitled to do effective herewith,” the court paper reads.

In January of 2024, WideOpen Platform dragged Lekau Sehoana and Drip Footwear to the high court in Johannesburg, seeking for its liquidation for failing to pay it more than R20-million.

WideOpen Platform wants Drip Footwear liquidated after it failed to service its debts. Its owner, Lekau Sehoana was also sued after signing a surety agreement for the entity and not meeting up to its obligations.

“The respondent is currently indebted to the applicant in the sum of R20 442 285.06 with interest thereon at the prevailing prime interest rate calculated from 1 June 2023 to the date of payment, both days inclusive,” a part of the court paper reveals.
