Onezwa, with over 572,000 followers on TikTok and a participant on ‘MasterChef South Africa’ in 2022, recently shared videos claiming that Smith plagiarized her content. Reports indicate that her cooking style is frequently likened to Nara’s on the platform. Onezwa expressed her frustration, saying, “Why am I being called ‘the South African Nara Smith’ when she’s copying my content?” She expressed her disappointment with the situation, mentioning, “I can’t benefit from my work as South African creators aren’t compensated, while Nara has allegedly profited from stealing my content.” The mother of three has gained a substantial following of 7.8 million on TikTok.

Onezwa told her followers that she decided to “take a break” because she noticed a popular content creator using her ideas. She expressed, “[Nara] keeps using my ideas to gain views. It wouldn’t be an issue, but in SA, we don’t earn from views, whereas where she is, they do.” The creator mentioned, “She’s profiting by appropriating my content.” In her contemplation of her online career, Onezwa shared feeling “disheartened” and “heartbroken” as Nara is “earning a lot from views.” She mentioned that she is fortunate to secure a brand collaboration. Moreover, she stated that it’s “no longer worthwhile” to create content. The South African creator also provided evidence of sorts. Onezwa explained that after she posted a video making boba tea, Nara uploaded a similar video the next day. She remarked, “…I was very proud of that video. The next day, she made a boba tea video. You might say it’s a coincidence, except it happens very often.”

Nara supposedly fired back swiftly. Onezwa displayed an email from the 22-year-old accusing her of “tarnishing [Nara’s] image.” Additionally, she claimed that the “accusations were completely baseless.” Furthermore, Smith warned that if she didn’t “withdraw [her] remarks,” legal action would follow! Nara “implored” Oneza to treat the “issue seriously.” In a recent TikTok update, Onezwa Mbola declared she wouldn’t cease creating her cooking videos. Instead, she stood firm on her claims of Nara Smith “appropriating ideas from small content creators.”
