According to a South African vlogger, some South Africans are unhappy about Adetshina reaching the top 16 of the pageant, claiming Nigerians in South Africa are often involved in dubious occupations.

The beauty queen addressed the controversy surrounding her participation in the pageant by clarifying her South African nationality in several interviews.

“I am a South African citizen and I have met all the requirements to be a part of the Miss SA competition. The fact that my father is Nigerian does not take away from the fact that I am South African. My mother is South African, and I was born and raised in this country,” she said.

The Miss SA organization issued a statement verifying Adetshina’s full eligibility to participate in the pageant.

The petition has garnered over 3,000 supporters. Critics contend that Adetshina’s participation compromises the pageant’s integrity, questioning her South African identity due to her mixed heritage. While the Miss SA rules now permit divorced and married contestants, her marital status has also become a point of contention.
