The Sad Story of Sandile Ngoqo

The story of Sandile Ngoqo and his friend is heartbreaking, and no parent should ever lose their child. This is wrong, and those responsible must be brought to justice.
Like many young adults in South Africa, Sandile Ngoqo, 22, was full of life. On the evening of 16 April 2026, he left his home on Abelia Crescent in Sunridge Park in his Volkswagen Caddy. He set out to pick up his friend, 19-year-old Mazizi Ntshibilili, who lived on Prestwick Street in Greenshields Park.
As many young people do on a cool evening, they dressed up nicely and went out to enjoy themselves. According to multiple reports, it is alleged that they were heading to Summerstrand, and were later seen at a tavern in Motherwell that night.
Like any parent would expect their children to return home after a long night out, neither Mazizi Ntshibilili nor Sandile Ngoqo came back. Unbeknownst to their families, these young men were in danger, and their lives were taken from them.
The Death of Mazizi Ntshibilili & Sandile Ngoqo
On the morning of 17 April 2026, at about 5:30 a.m., the body of Mazizi Ntshibilili was found on Mgwalana Street, NU6, Motherwell, with gunshot wounds to the head.
Concerned about the fate of the other young man, the South African police intensified their search. At about 10:30 a.m. the same day, the body of Sandile Ngoqo was found near the Swartkops River, close to Corobrik, with a gunshot wound to the back.
While the case may be linked to car hijacking, Sandile Ngoqo’s vehicle, the Volkswagen Caddy, was later discovered abandoned on Ndlanzi Street, NU5, Motherwell.
Political Persecution
Sandile Ngoqo was the son of Lonwabo Ngoqo, the Acting City Manager of Nelson Mandela Bay. Since news of his death broke, some social media users have linked the brutal killing to his father’s political role, as he is reportedly involved in probing systemic failures in the municipality’s administration, including missing tender files and a R35 million streetlighting (LED) tender scandal.
